Home Heating Help InformationNinth District Opportunity, Inc.Information Notice HOME HEATING HELP AVAILABLE FOR THE LOW INCOME, ELDERLY AND DISABLED. Low-income elderly (every household member must be age 65 and older) or totally homebound, can apply for assistance paying their home heating bills beginning November 2, 2009. The Georgia Department of Human Resources will help pay heating costs for gas, electricity, wood, coal or kerosene. One-time payments will be made primarily by checks issued to home energy suppliers on behalf of eligible households. Eligibility for the program is based on the income of all members of the household. All eligible households must be responsible for their home heating costs. When applying for assistance, persons must present age verification and written proof of income for all household members. This can be a paycheck stub, public assistance check or unemployment check. Applicants must also supply a documented social security number for each person in the household and a most recent home heating bill. Depending on availability of funds, the regular program will open to the general public on December 1, 2009.
