Covid-19 Response

The 2020 Georgia Legal Food Frenzy exceeds last year’s record! For more information about Legal Food Frenzy, click HERE.

We are very thankful for the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program that supports farmers and sends fresh food to food banks and other nonprofits across the country. We are receiving 20,000 lbs. of beautiful fresh produce weekly for six consecutive weeks. This food is flowing from our docks to the doorsteps of families in need through our agencies and programs.

Because we serve seniors, children and hungry individuals with potentially compromised immune systems – and work with community partners that are on the front lines of serving these populations – our clients and partners are especially vulnerable to the spread of COVID-19. As a result, we are closely monitoring the situation in partnership with Feeding America and public health authorities and are working proactively to protect the health and safety of our staff, partners, volunteers, and all those we serve while continuing our mission of feeding the hungry.

Many people have reached out to us asking how they can help.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are so grateful to those who continue to want to do good things for the community during this challenging time. To ensure the safety of volunteers during this time, we want to provide ways that people can contribute to our efforts from their homes.

Write a Note to a Family in Need

We are collecting encouraging notes for seniors, children and families who are struggling during this crisis. As we assemble boxes of emergency food that will be distributed to partner agencies, we would like to include these notes as a way of showing connectedness and support.

You can mail your notes to Georgia Mountain Food Bank:
P.O. Box 233
Gainesville, Ga. 30503

**Please sign the note with your first name(s) only.

Family Bowl-Painting Party

We count on the community to paint bowls for our Empty Bowl Luncheon. Every guest at the Lunch in September chooses a hand-painted bowl to take home as a reminder that they are helping to fill empty bowls in our community. The beauty of painting a bowl to donate to the event is that the individual is giving a piece of themselves, expressed uniquely, to support the mission of GMFB, “till no one is hungry”. A great experience for children and families! Each bowl painted can help provide up to 50 meals! Now, you can host your own family in a “bowl painting party”! GMFB can drop off a painting supply kit directly to your home and pick up 24-48 hours later. For a donation of $50.00, the kit includes 4 bowls and all supplies. At this time, limited to Gainesville city limits. Email Sara at for more information.
