Georgia Mountain Food Bank (GMFB) hosted our first Family Day on Saturday, June 17, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the GMFB warehouse. The event was free and open to the public with more than one hundred volunteers and friends in attendance! Grilled hamburgers and hotdogs were served, and  a variety of games and activities were available  for all ages.

“Family Day was to designed to create an  opportunity to celebrate summer with our community, while also raising awareness about all the resources the Food Bank offers to families” said Kay Blackstock, executive
director at GMFB. “Summer is one of our busiest seasons. Many families struggle to put additional meals on the table while children are out of school. This event is a great way to educate people on how they can help support the Food Bank’s mission to end local hunger, while also enjoying some summer fun in the process.”

Rae Abshire, author of award winning children’s book “Andi’s Perfect Toy” was on location signing books. With a $20 donation, individuals received  a signed copy of the book,  with a portion of the proceeds donated to the GMFB.  Almost 100 books were sold and are still available at GMFB.

Northeast Georgia Humane Society, was on-site with the adorable “Blossom”  who was available for adoption.   All guests loved meeting “Blossom” and learning about how to adopt a pet.

The day was a great success and we look forward to making “Family Day” an annual event at GMFB.
