Legal Food Frenzy

A Food & Fund Drive Among All Georgia Lawyers

The Verdict is in on the 2019 Legal Food Frenzy Competition!

193 Law firms and legal organizations across Georgia, representing more than 13,000 employees, raised a record-breaking $419,321 and 17,617 pounds of food during the 8th Annual State-Wide Legal Food Frenzy, held April 22-May 3, 2019.  This is the equivalent of 1.7 million meals for Georgia’s regional food banks and a 9.5% increase from last year.

Georgia Mountain Food Bank is the smallest food bank in the state, but our local law firms are committed to eliminating food scarcity in our area. Three out of the five counties Georgia Mountain Food Bank serves were represented by area law firms, raising over $22,000 for families and children in our community. Whelchel, Dunlap, Jarrard, and Walker raised $10,000 of our total amount, allowing them to pick up the #1 spot in the local competition, while also winning the “Medium Firm” competition state-wide for the 2nd year in a row. Stewart, Melvin, & Frost came in 2nd place, and Forsyth county firm Jarrard & Davis placed 3rd in the local contest. The Legal Food Frenzy competition is a vital campaign to GMFB, especially since it occurs at a time of year when contributions can be low, just when school ends and affects the 1 in 5 children who depend on access to breakfast and lunch at school everyday.

Georgia Legal Food Frenzy is a joint effort by the Young Lawyers Division, the Attorney General’s Office and the Georgia Food Bank Association. Georgia Legal Food Frenzy asks Georgia lawyers to challenge each other outside the courtroom during the statewide food drive benefiting the State’s eight regional food banks. The food and monetary contributions collected by GMFB during the competition stay in the region, helping to serve more than 70 of GMFB’s partner agencies throughout the service area of Hall, Dawson, Forsyth, Union and Lumpkin counties. With a growing awareness of the competition, we continue to add new firms every year. We appreciate the impact that LFF has on our area, and we always look forward to sharing our mission with our friends in the legal community and their clients. Thank you to all the firms who help us “‘til no one is hungry”!
