Empty Bowl 2022 Thank You

What a special day it was as we gathered back together in person to make an impact on hunger at our Empty Bowl 2022 lunch! After two years of virtual events, it was wonderful to see everyone’s faces and see the collective impact we can have when we work toward a common goal ’til no one is hungry.

Because of the amazing generosity of our community, we will be able to provide almost 1.1 million meals to those struggling with hunger throughout Hall, Lumpkin, Union, Dawson and Forsyth counties, just from the proceeds of Empty Bowl alone. Once again, we are amazed, but not surprised, at the love that abounds.

As usual, the program also featured the presentation of “The Mike Banks Reflections of the Heart” award in memory of philanthropist and friend of GMFB, Mike Banks of Gainesville. This legacy award is a part of Empty Bowl each year and is given to an individual whose contributions to GMFB truly reflect “the heart of a giver” in the same way that Mike Banks lived his life. This year’s recipient of “The Mike Banks Reflections of the Heart” award was George Wangemann.

Free Chapel received the James A. Walters Corporate Volunteer of the Year award. Pastor James Glutting was on hand to accept the award on behalf of Free Chapel. Dr. Jackie Pray received the Phillip Bond Sartain Individual Volunteer of the Year award. While she was unable to attend the Empty Bowl lunch, the Food Bank presented her with her award at a lunch for volunteers the week prior to Empty Bowl.
