Feed the HungryOver six years ago the citizens of Union County united to begin this ministry, Feed the Hungry. At that time, Feed the Hungry, did not have a permanent location but rather distributed the food out of the back of a truck, delivering pre-bagged food from the Georgia Mountain Food Bank on the first Saturday of each month. After a year and a half the agency was able to secure a permanent location, which allows drive by access to 150 families each month.

Over the past year, Feed the Hungry has provided assistance for more than 1800 families with 4800 members, including more than 1500 children and 800 senior adults. The agency has  distributed more 100,000 pounds of food, which includes dry goods, eggs, bread, meat and paper products. But, Feed the Hungry has done more than provide for families in need. Several of their clients were so moved by the work the agency was doing that they began to attend church and help the agency continue to carry out its mission by volunteering to serve others.

Feed the Hungry recently applied for and received a $5,000 grant from the North Georgia Community Foundation, which will allow the agency to provide even more assistance to those in Union County. They look forward to continuing to feed the hungry for years to come.
