GAINESVILLE-HALL COUNTY, Ga. (Nov. 6, 2025) – In an effort to help those in need amid SNAP cuts, the City of Gainesville, Georgia and Hall County Government have partnered to host a community food drive from Friday, Nov. 7-Tuesday, Nov. 25. The food drive will support The Georgia Mountain Food Bank, which will distribute donations to food-insecure households.
"SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being," said Gainesville Public Relations Director Christina Santee-Moss, according to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service. "While millions of families across the U.S. await reduced SNAP benefits, if they get even that, the City and County are hoping to assist local families now by partnering with the Georgia Mountain Food Bank and making the community's ability to participate easier by establishing collection sites at 30-plus locations in Gainesville, and northern, eastern, western and southern Hall County."
Those interested in supporting the food drive may also make monetary donations directly to the Georgia Mountain Food Bank. A donation of just $10 equals 50 meals: wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E156881&id=46&_gl=1*16rnvqt*_gcl_au*MTc0NzM1MzE2MS4...
Additionally, the Georgia Mountain Food Bank welcomes donations from its online Amazon wish list, purchases from which are delivered directly to its warehouse: www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/PP0T5STJ373S?ref_=wl_share
"This is a time when we as a community need to come together and look out for one another," Hall County Public Information Officer Joy Licciardi said. "Food insecurity doesn't always look the same, and you never truly know who might be struggling to put food on the table. Now more than ever, we're reminded that it truly does take a village, and this is our moment to be that village for those in need."
If interested in contributing to the food drive, consider donating items from the Georgia Mountain Food Bank's list of healthy food items:
