Pantry PARTNERS through & Through, lifting each ot Pantry PARTNERS through & Through, lifting each other up!! We had the most uplifting site visit with Rescate 2000 last week. During the visit—and inspection of their very old freezers—it quickly became clear they wouldn’t pass. One telltale sign was the heavy cooler being used to weigh down the lid so it would seal properly. While the freezer was technically holding temp, it was obvious they needed newer equipment. The second freezer had an even heavier cooler on top, but worse—it had come unplugged, and all the frozen bread and pastries inside had spoiled. As I was explaining the steps they’d need to take to dispose of the food, I suddenly remembered something from our Agency Advisory Council meeting earlier this month. Dawn Matthieu from South Hall Community Food Pantry—who also serves on our Agency Advisory Council—had mentioned that since GMFB helped fund their new merchandising cooler and freezer for their client-choice pantry, they would soon be parting with several freezers and refrigerators. I shared this with Miguel and Claudia and said, “Let me just text Dawn to see if she’s ready to let them go.” After a few back-and-forth messages, the good news came: not only was Dawn ready—she was more than willing to help. That very evening, Rescate picked up some of those freezers, along with much-needed carts that South Hall no longer needed. I love how quickly prayers—not even spoken—are answered, and how our partner network steps in to lift each other up!
