Georgia Mountain Food Bank Receives Grant from BofA

A recent $10,000 grant from Bank of America will support Georgia Mountain Food Bank’s (GMFB) food rescue program to collect food from retail donors. Through the bank’s grant and partnership, the grant will be used to provide additional food to distribute to more than 70 partner agencies in Hall, Forsyth, Dawson, Lumpkin and Union counties. The money provided from Bank of America gives GMFB the ability to secure food supplies when food donations are low and demand is high.

“Grants like these are essential to bolstering our efforts to feed the food insecure in North Georgia,” said Rebecca Thurman, executive director of GMFB. The rising costs of food has presented a new challenge as more people are now in need of food assistance. Our food rescue program collects food from our local retail donors. We then warehouse and redistribute the supplies to our agency partners like community food pantries and shelters.”

Bank of America focuses on improving the lives of individuals and families by investing in health, jobs, and strengthening broader community vitality by addressing needs related to community development.

“Developing strong partnerships with nonprofit organizations like Georgia Mountain Food Bank is essential to driving meaningful and sustainable progress in our community,” said Al McRae, president, Bank of America Atlanta. “Georgia Mountain Food Bank’s work is vital in ensuring our neighbors are fed and have access to everyday necessities.”

“We are grateful to Bank of America for their investment in North Georgia. Their partnership allows GMFB to continue to address hunger, health and the quality of life and be a vital link between sources of food supplies and our community-based partner agencies that help get the food into the hands of those in need,” said Thurman.
